Normally I do one post a week on a Wednesday but today I felt it was necessary to do an extra one.  Two years ago I was gifted this cigar on my wedding day.  I had intended to smoke it last year but circumstances didn’t permit and I didn’t want to smoke it on a day other than an anniversary.  With that being the case I smoked & photographed this cigar today on my second anniversary.  You can also see by the pictures the cigar kind of blew up on me, it was a little bit plugged and I cracked it using a draw poker which was kind of a bummer.

I’d also like to thank my wife for putting up with me this long and for humoring some of my more eccentric ideas.  Thank you and I love you.

Squid’s Lighters® Custom Camacho Liberty 2009 Zippo

Over the past couple of years I’ve spent quite a bit of it on Twitter, during this time I’ve gotten to know Tim aka Mr_Squiddy from SquidsLighters® and with that I’ve also gotten to know the quality custom work that he does with Cigar Bands.  The name of his business is SquidsLighters® but he does much more than lighters.  I’ve seen his work on Zippos, Ronsons, an ST Dupont as well as pens and even ashtrays.  Today I’m starting with the first of what will become many posts of some of his products.  I’d asked Tim what prompted him to start doing Cigar Art with the bands and this was his story.

“After smoking cigars for a number years, I found I had a pretty large collection of cigar bands.  I’d seen other people put them on table-tops and humidors, so decided to give a try to doing my own particular type of artwork involving the cigar bands.  I settled on lighters and pens because they are small (so I wouldn’t get bored in the middle and abandon a project uncompleted) and I could use them as gifts to other cigar smokers.  Also, after looking around the Internet, I found nobody else doing what I thought might be an interesting type of art-work.  I started with disposables and gave them away or traded them for cigars.  Ended up about 5 years ago doing Zippos and Ronsons mostly and selling them small-scale.  In the middle I’d 2010 I decided to do this as a business.”

With that take the time to visit the SquidsLighters® site and take a browse, there is a nice gallery of previous works.  Also most of the pieces I will be posting are currently for sale if you’re interested in any of the pieces shown or any custom pieces make sure to contact Tim.

If you’re still reading at this point I appreciate it and also wanted to extend a thank you to Tim for the opportunity to photograph and hone my skills on his products.
